Why Cornhusker Football Used to Be Different

They annihilated Kansas State Saturday. They're still under .500 this year. If, on the day after thanksgiving, they play as they did Saturday, they should beat Colorado and go to a low-end bowl game. Coach Callahan and Co are almost certain to be fired at the end of the year. As it was for Coach Solich, being humiliated by Kansas, even if they're undefeated and in the hunt for the national championship--how bizarre is that?--is more than Nebraskans will accept.

Here's a video to explain the passion Nebraskans have for their football team.

That was actually kind of inspiring.

The video explains why Nebraska fans will watch every play of a game even if their team is up by 40 points. Perhaps their enthusiasm is fed by a lack of professional sports teams that they can claim - Kansas City is about 4 hours southeast of Lincoln, Denver is too far west from Nebraska's major cities, Minneapolis/St. Paul is almost as far in the other direction. Nebraska is what is called "fly-over country."

My wife is from Nebraska and the people there are great. While it might lack a lot of glitz and glamor of other places it has an honest quality of its own.
