Dr. R. Scott Clark (B.A., University of Nebraska, 1984; M.Div., Westminster Theological Seminary, California, 1987; D.Phil., Oxford University, 1998)
Dr. R. Scott Clark is the Associate Pastor of the Oceanside URC. He ordinarily preaches once a month and regularly teaches our adult catechism class. He is also Associate Professor of Historical and Systematic Theology at Westminster Seminary California.
He was a pastor in Kansas City, Missouri from 1987-1993. Since 1997 he has taught at Westminster Seminary California. He has also taught at Wheaton College (1995-1997), Reformed Theological Seminary (1996) and Concordia University, Irvine, California (2000).
He is the author of Caspar Olevian and the Substance of the Covenant: The Double Benefit of Christ and the editor of Covenant, Justification, and Pastoral Ministry: Essays by the Faculty of Westminster Seminary California and co-editor of Protestant Scholasticism: Essays in Reassessment. He writes frequently for popular magazines such as Modern Reformation magazine as well as for academic journals.
His hobbies include playing basketball, rooting for the University of Nebraska football team, reading and collecting books, fountain pens and pocket watches. Some of his favorite authors are P. G. Wodehouse, James Thurber, Dorothy Sayers, John Calvin, Louis Berkhof, Martin Luther, and Geerhardus Vos. Some of his favorite books are Johannes Wollebius' Compendium of Christian Theology, Geerhardus Vos' Biblical Theology, Francis Turretin's Institutes of Elenctic Theology, Dorothy Sayers' Creed or Chaos?, and Martin Luther's The Bondage of the Will.
He and his wife Barbara have 2 children and they live in Escondido.
