Blast from the Past
Back in 2002 our church was "reviewed" in the San Diego Weekly Reader. This last past Lord's Day I dredged this up from the files to show some of our new members as we had lunch together.
It is interesting how this Jewish gentleman understood my sermon as there is quite a bit of journalistic license with what I said (just checked the manuscript).
Anyways, enjoy a laugh!
The Wisdom of Luther on Books
"The number of theological books must also be lessened, and a selection made of the best of them. For it is not many books or much reading that makes men learned; but it is good things, however little of them, often read, that make men learned in the Scriptures, and make them godly, too. Indeed the writings of all the holy fathers should be read only for a time, in order that through them we may be led to the Holy Scriptures. As it is, however, we read them only to be absorbed in them and never come to the Scriptures. We are like men who study the sign-posts and never travel the road. The dear fathers wished, by their writings, to lead us to the Scriptures, but we so use them as to be led away from the Scriptures, though the Scriptures alone are our vineyard in which we ought to work and toil."
—Martin Luther, An Open Letter to The Christian Nobility
May all my books and those who write other books lead God's people back to the sacred source.

Brad Lenzner doing his best Praise Team impression. (no, seriously!)

Look mom, no robe!

Trying to light a fire under the frozen chosen.

The "Boys"
Eberle (with that look of global domination): "In summary, the world needs us, but we need funding. You see, if we can harness the energy of the atom in a responsible way, we can halt global warming, end poverty, and promote peace in the world."
Davis (looking seriously interested): "Maybe we could begin a center for engineers transitioning into the nuclear field, you know, kind of like a TARMAC at the airport..."
Lenzner (looking dazzled): "Whoa."
Hyde (with that "whatever" look): "'And the city has no need of sun...' Get used to being underfunded!"

The Reformed "afterglow."
Props to My Peeps
While I am here, I might as well mention a personal note. My little brother, Brian, is now the #8 Assistant Car Sales Manager in the Enterprise Corporation. That earned him a promotion (and a move) as Manager in Calabassas, California. Congrats, Bri!
My older brother, Tim, is now the defensive line coach at El Camino College in Torrance, California. ECC is ranked #3 in the pre-season polls. Congrats, big man!
Happy Birthday #2 Cyprian
Cyprian,
May the waters of baptism ever remind you to look back upon our Red Sea, the precious blood of the Son of God, and forward to the spiritual land of Canaan.
